Ramadan Gems(day 13: Give It Away)

Give It Away (Charity):-

Narrated `Adi bin Hatim heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying:

“Save yourself from Hell-fire even by giving half a date-fruit in charity.”

Reference  : Sahih al-Bukhari 1417
In-book reference  : Book 24, Hadith 21
USC-MSA web (English) reference  : Vol. 2, Book 24, Hadith 498
(deprecated numbering scheme)

Giving in charity will purify your wealth and protect you from hell fire. It is not necessary to give it in bulk and as the Hadith states that a single date can also be given as charity. One should give from what one possesses. There is no limit in giving, all that matters is your intent. And giving away in the month of Ramadan, SubhanAllah, the reward is immense. Let it be anything but give it away for the sake of Allah. Allah doesn’t need quantity He looks at the quality. Do not boast about what you’ve given to the need, that will spoil all of it. Be pure in your intentions, do it for the sake of Allah. Giving away to the needy will lighter your burdens.

While giving from your wealth is a fact that all of us know is the first form of charity. But there are many other simple things that are also a form of charity. Check this Hadith

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said:

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Every joint of a person must perform a charity each day that the sun rises: to judge justly between two people is a charity. To help a man with his mount, lifting him onto it or hoisting up his belongings onto it, is a charity. And the good word is a charity. And every step that you take towards the prayer is a charity, and removing a harmful object from the road is a charity.” [Al-Bukhari][Muslim]
SubhanAllah, how simple is our religion. You smile, it becomes a charity. Remove an object from the path, that’s a charity. A good word you speak, that’s a charity. [It doesn’t mean that you don’t spend your wealth and smile at every person on the road and say I gave charity. LoL]
All that is required is some concern. You are thoughtful about pleasing you Master, earning rewards to protect yourself from hell fire and for the benefit of both dunya and akhirah then all this stuff will fit in your brain. If you don’t ponder about your life’s purpose then you won’t think about giving charity and other such stuff and this will not be a matter of concern for you.
We’ll discuss more about this tomorrow in Sha Allah.
And before I end, a confession, I began this Ramadan gems series as a tafseer glimpse series and I did it for the first two posts, but I realized that I’m not qualified enough to write about such stuff. I’m just at the beginning level and it might be possible that I might make mistakes, so it is better for me to back away untill I have sound knowledge about that. So this series I’ll just post random ideas and thoughts to boost you for doing more in Ramadan.
Salam 🙂
